A room for hospitalised children — Institut Pr Daniel Gahouma
A space for welcoming, play and reading to bring smiles back to children in hospital.
The context
In hospital, the days of sick children are long and sometimes frightening. A place to play, read and escape changes everything: it soothes, keeps them occupied and brings back joy, for children and their families alike.
Our objectives
- Improve the well-being and morale of hospitalised children.
- Provide a dedicated space for play, reading and relaxation.
- Support families during periods of hospitalisation.
What we have achieved
On 25 December 2024, NZILA Leaders inaugurated a lasting paediatric recreation room at the Institut des Maladies Infectieuses Pr Daniel Gahouma (Owendo) — a permanent play space for hospitalised children. The room brings together a multimedia area, a television for cartoons, educational games (Legos, puzzles), a library of more than 800 books and an adjoining monitoring room. The association also kept up its tradition of Christmas gifts and handed out food kits to the young patients.
"This year we wanted to innovate with something lasting."
— Elvis Ossindji, Founder of NZILA Leaders
The paediatric department, through Dr Yolande Ognagna Boussamba, pledged to ensure the proper use of the room. A project carried out with the support of several partners, including NL Consulting.
