School Kits & NZILA Leaders Prize
Giving every child the means to start the school year well, everywhere in Gabon.
The context
Every new school year, the cost of school supplies weighs heavily on the most modest families — at the risk of jeopardising children's schooling. Yet a simple, well-equipped satchel can make all the difference to a pupil's success.
Our goals
- Ease the burden of the new school year for vulnerable families.
- Support children's success at school.
- Encourage excellence by rewarding the best pupils.
What we have achieved
NZILA Leaders has distributed nearly 1,900 school kits across six localities of the country: about 500 in Rio (junction), 1,000 in Okondja, around a hundred in Okala (CICIBA), 100 in Oyem, 100 in Koula-Moutou and 100 in Port-Gentil. Each satchel contained notebooks, pens, rulers, compasses and highlighters.
Alongside this, the NZILA Leaders Prize (launched in February 2020) rewards the best pupils in the 5e and 6e grades to honour their effort and achievement.
Figures reported in the press (Convergence Afrique, 2022).
